The Tithe Schedule holds all data in one table for each Tithe District. This is fine on paper, in a database, however, this approach has considerable drawbacks.

  • Selection of data and analysis on different levels is inhibited.
  • Data in fields of the schedule is not atomic.
  • Columns are not identical in all schedules.
  • Parishes are identified within tithe districts; analysis on parishes is inhibited

The process of arranging data in a relational database according to relational database theory is called 'normalisation'.
